“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.”
Jeremiah 29:7
We hear a lot about doing things to bring about changes and how to impact our culture. “You only get out what you put in…” We know this is based on truth and on action. It is challenging, though, when there are so many different people with different backgrounds, beliefs, values, and experiences. When we genuinely devote our time, energy, and heart into the people we live with, things happen! People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. Just being available is the greatest ability we can share. An encouraging word, an attentive ear, or a handshake….these simple gestures do so much and go so much further than we could ever begin to imagine. Just like God blew the walls of Jericho down – today through doing our best to be positive, respectful and sincere –the Holy Spirit will remove the walls and barriers in our own living areas. We have so many opportunities to grow, to give aid, and to encourage. Our actions affect our cities and give us the chance to make them better…not only for us but for those that will come after us. Are we products of our environment or are our environments products of who we are? Through the power of the Holy Spirit working in and through us, we have the ability to change the world we live in!
