Hi, my name is Susan Neyra. I am the founder of Disciples 4 Christ. We are an outreach ministry with a heart for prisoners. We came together as a body of believers in Christ 14 years ago just to have chapel services inside. My heart was to go back and tell people that there is life after prison, but you needed to work on yourself right there. As this has grown, I can honestly say, it’s our heart to go in tell these men and women the gifts that they have and to let them know that Jesus loves them to give them hope and they do have a future. And that God loves them unconditionally.
In this process, we started programs that would help give them the tools they need to not only be successful where they are at but be successful out when they come home.
Did you know that 90% of the men and women incarcerated will be coming home? I would prefer that they do not come home the way they walked into the prisons. And that was my heart when I was incarcerated. I wanted to walk out better than I walked in. And so I dug in and got into the word to study to know who I was in Christ and that I could walk in victory. And that is our heart to go back in there and tell them that they do have a future and to give them the tools that they need to be productive where they are at as well as inside.
Through the years we have developed new programs on a regular basis. We have been able to host 5 family fun days where the offenders can spend the day with their family. We host 5 or 6 workshops a year and numerous chapel services. Not to mention our annual blessing bag event.
We need people to partner with us as we are doing this. Not only to partner in prayer to cover these events or events that we will be taking on as we do this full-time. But also coming alongside us, volunteering to get these events done. We need penpals. You can’t imagine the number of letters we get asking for penpals to write them on a spiritual basis. What I call is being a spiritual cheerleader for them. I know I had when I was incarcerated and how much it did for me for someone to write to me on a regular basis. To encourage me in the word.
Also, financially. This will be a year, we are stepping out in faith and we need financial partners to help cover the extra costs that we are going to be taking on. With me doing this full-time as well as taking on more events.
