Our volunteers were so excited to host the Fourth Annual Ad Seg Hotdog Outreach last weekend at the Hughes unit!
We had 29 dedicated volunteers show up bright and early Saturday morning at 6:30, since we needed to be on the unit by 7:00. Each year an inmate volunteers to grill the hotdogs, and they always do a fantastic job! They managed to grill 1350 hotdogs in record time! Our female volunteers and a few handpicked inmates filled and stuffed the bags with hotdogs, chips, and condiments. They also were able to add a tract, ”You’re Worth More Than You Think,” which featured our cofounder, Bob Neyra, who we sadly lost in February. Our male volunteers went to minister one on one in a couple of the buildings, and also got a tour of the incentive dorm. Next stop was Building 12 where they passed out hotdogs and ministered cell to cell. Once the last bag of hotdogs was distributed, they packed up and headed out.
Several of our volunteers gathered together for lunch and had a debriefing of what it meant to go be the hands and feet of Jesus to these men. One couple said they didn’t know what to expect, but it was far more than they could have ever fathomed. Others wanted to make sure we knew that they would love to be a part of this type of outreach again!
