Dagon was the main god of the Philistines, whose upper body was one of a man and his lower body was one of a fish. Dagon was identified as the father of Baal. In I Samuel 5:3-4 (NKJV), it talks about how the “Philistines took the Ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon. When the people of Ashdod arose early in the morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the earth before the Ark of The Lord. Dagon is not only an idol but a demon as well. Notice this idol had no choice but to fall prostrate on the ground before the Lord’s Ark as though worshipping. This parallels the Scripture in Luke 10:17 (NKJV), “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your Name.”
When we have Jesus living in us, anything that comes up against us must answer to Him. Whether it be enemies both seen and unseen, an illness, or any situation. When we’re living for the Lord and are in right standing, these things have to submit and face our Father, when they come up against us. So, fear nothing. Just be still and call on Jesus.
There was another Philistine idol, Goliath, who fell prostrate. “Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone, and he slung it and struck the Philistine in the forehead so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth ” I Samuel 17:49. Goliath was an idol the Philistines depended on. We also may be going through a season of sickness, addiction, immorality, or an idol. Don’t give up. “Do not cease to cry out to The Lord our God for us, that He may save us from the hand of the Philistines” (I Samuel 7:3).
Let’s pray: My Lord, cover me with the blood of Jesus Christ, that I may absorb it down to the bone and marrow. Let it seep down to my core, my inward shrine, where an altar of worship is embedded along with the Holy Spirit and His wordless groans – sanctify me, Your holy temple. I praise You, for it is an honor to be Yours. Forgive me, Lord….put to death whatever belongs to my earthly nature… sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and idolatry. Help my eyes not to look at anything or anyone lustfully, so I don’t commit adultery in my heart. If my eye has caused me to stumble, gouge out my perception of others and idols (Matthew 5:27-29 NKJV). Thank You, Lord Jesus, for splitting that curtain. Such a Gentleman, that I may walk in to say the prayer I just prayed to You and where Dagon is not allowed. In Your Name Jesus. Amen.
