First Female Infirmary opened on Crain Unit in Gatesville, TX
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has opened its first-ever female infirmary. Located on the Crain Unit in Gatesville, TX, the infirmary is capable of housing up to 13 offenders and is capable of providing care for a wide variety of ailments and illnesses, from oxygen dependence to even paralysis.
Officially opened on July, 10 2020, the infirmary became a reality due to the dedicated work, effort, and collaboration of many people. Led by Nurse Manager Mary Minshew, the infirmary gives nurses and staff “another level of care to give to our patient population, and coincides with our mission and our vision of providing the best care to this offender population,” (https://www.tdcj.texas.gov/connections/-articles/20201000_TDCJ_opens_first_female_infirmary.html)
This new infirmary, and the level of care it will provide the offenders on the Crain Unit, is a blessing that will have such a positive effect on so many lives.
