What a great time our volunteers had at the Hilltop Hotdog/Hygiene outreach last weekend! Six weeks before the outreach, the chaplain approached us with a pressing need for hygiene. We’ve always had the mentality that if it’s God’s will, He will pay the bill, and He sure did! With big projects like this, purchasing all the product was our next hurdle, but a team of our volunteers visited every Dollar Tree in the Metroplex and, praise God….we got everything we needed, plus a little extra!!
We always try to get everything set up the day before, and it can definitely be a struggle to get it all done, but we always walk away knowing it’s all worth it!! We absolutely loved hearing their laughter and seeing the smiles on their faces as we watched the ladies going through the line to get their hotdogs, condiments, and chips. I
It was delightful hearing their stories of how they had just run out of one thing or another as we handed them their hygiene bags. Due to time restraints we weren’t able to sit and fellowship with all the ladies, but we had a great time anyway and got everything done.
One of our volunteers, Tim Winters, had this to say about the day.
“June 22, 2024 was a new experience for me. Been out 8 years and have been back in as a volunteer numerous times to the men’s units. This was different and eye opening. I finally went to volunteer on the women’s unit. Not sure what to expect, but it was a great experience that left me both happy and sad. Happy that we were able to help them with hygiene and share the love of Jesus with them, but sad thinking about these mothers and daughters away from their families. I’m thankful to Disciples 4 Christ for this opportunity and as I shared with some of the ladies, I came to visit you because they (D4C) came to visit me!”
